Special Treat: “Taking You Down” Lyrics and Royalty Free Usage Statement!

In the world of The Star-Runner Chronicles, the invention of records in the 940’s and radio in the 970’s has given rise to a myriad of recording artists and hit songs. Today, I present you with the biggest hit of the 1042-1043 hit cycle, “Taking You Down”. Sung by international Pop sensation Annie Archer, it’s a song about hope and picking yourself up and continuing on after all chance of victory seems lost.

In the book Wolfie Star-Runner Plays with Hellfire, however, one of the main characters sings his own cover of the song at a music festival. His version of the song is darker and edgier than the original, feeling a lot less like Katy Perry’s “Roar” or Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger” and more like Queen’s “Another One Bites the Dust” or Drowning Pool’s “Bodies”. This is basically a perfect in-universe example of the trope “The Cover Changes the Meaning”, since his cover transforms a song of hope into a song of revenge.

So, without further ado, here are the lyrics already!

Taking You Down

Verse 1

I’m lying here,
Battered and bleeding on the ground.
You think I’m dying here,
Since you just beat me around,
And around,
Like a cheap piñata.

You don’t,
See the,
Fire in my eyes!
You can search for,
The tears,
But I’m not gonna cry!
I’m climbing back,
To my feet,
To rip out your spine!
And there ain’t no way I’m givin’ in!
I’m never gonna stop!

Chorus

You can rock me,
Sock me,
Pick up and drop me,
But when I find my opening!
Down!
I’m taking you down!
I’m putting you in the ground,
Six feet under!
’Cause I’m a world wonder!
Out!
I’m taking you out,
With a single blow!
Just so you know!
I’m taking you down!

Verse 2

I’m getting off the floor,
Readying myself for another round.
You’re looking like “What for?”
Since you’re too stupid to see,
That I’ve found,
The means by which to crush ya.

You can’t,
See the,
Fire in my eyes!
You think you should,
See fear,
But I stand and defy!
You think I’ll go back down,
Easily,
But not on your life!
’Cause there ain’t no way I’m givin’ in!
I’m never gonna stop!

Back to Chorus

Instrumental

Bridge

I’m bleeding buckets,
Sweating rivers,
Still there’s no pallor,
To my liver.

You stumble once,
I take your eyes.
You seem so shocked,
So damn surprised.

And while you cry,
That you can’t see,
I dive right in,
And I smash your knee!

You’re on the ground,
I’m standing tall,
One final blow,
Will end it all…
Will end it all…
Will end it all!

Chorus 2

Down!
I’m taking you down!
I’m putting you in the ground,
Six feet under!
’Cause I’m a world wonder!
Out!
I’m taking you out,
With a single blow!
Just so you know!
I’m taking you,
Down!
I’m taking you down!
I’m putting you in the ground,
Six feet under!
’Cause I’m a world wonder!
Out!
I’m taking you out,
With a single blow!
Just so you know!
Just so you know!
’Cause here’s how it goes!
I’m taking you down!

Yeah, that’s basically it. If you want to use this song royalty free, all you have to do is credit me and drop a shameless plug. It’s a pretty sweet deal for any indie or emerging artist!

Thanks for reading. I hope to see many wonderful and creative covers of this song in the future, and join us next week for more about the world! If you haven’t already, be sure to check out Wolfie Star-Runner Plays with Hellfire and its prequel The Rebirth and Awakening of Wolfie Star-Runner on Amazon. You can also check me out on Twitter, poke around my Pintrest page, and give a look-see to my Fan Works Spot (you know, if you wonder what my creative touch can do with established characters). And, as always, if you like my books or my blog (or, in this case, know someone who could use some royalty free song lyrics), spread the word to your buddies in real life and online! Also, if you’ve already read my books, don’t forget to drop a rating or review at Amazon, Goodreads, or any other book review site. (Yes, even if you didn’t like the books that much. Even negative feedback is helpful feedback.)
